red-acrylic painting of red clouds in sunset

I had planned something with a bit of science in it for the opening, but the weather we have at the moment deserves a painting I think. So here’s a nice bit of a sunset.

Remember, each painting in The ART Approach is for sale for one week only. Find it on eBay

ART is Approaching…

The ART Approach is a technique in dentistry that uses simple tools and materials to repair teeth quickly, and I’ve spent three years of my PhD researching new materials for it. ART stands for Atraumatic Restorative Technique, and the coincidence in the name is too good to pass up, so now I want to apply the ART approach to my art – smaller paintings and simpler materials than my usual work, but hopefully just as beautiful and interesting.

Starting next Saturday the 13th at 8pm (Irish time), and continuing every week for the next year you will find a new painting here, with subjects ranging from my usual landscapes and abstracts to some things straight out of the research lab. Not many painters can use an electron microscope to look for inspiration so there’s sure to be something you haven’t seen before!

And in keeping with the fast and simple approach I’m leaving the price up to you. Each painting will be on auction for a week on eBay, so you just might get an original piece of art at a very good price. Follow The ART Approach here or on your favourite social network using the “Follow Me” box to make sure you never miss a painting or a good opportunity to start your own art collection.

The SCOOP Charity Art Auction

On Sunday October 14th at 3pm this painting and many others will be auctioned to raise funds for the SCOOP (Save Children Out Of Poverty) Foundation, a charity based in Dublin. It should be a great chance to support a worthy cause and see the work of a wide range of artists.

The exhibition and auction will be launched with a free drinks reception on Thursday 27th of September in the Ormonde Wine Bar on Ormonde Quay, Dublin. Even if you can’t make it on one of these days, the paintings are already on display in the bar.

For more information about the foundation check out SCOOP’s website.

Greenacres Open Submission Show

From the 4th to the 26th of February I will be exhibiting alongside many other artists at the Greenacres Open Submission Show in Wexford town. The exhibition will feature a diverse mix of paintings and sculptures, so there should be something for everyone. Five paintings from my “Sea and Sky” collection will be included.

The official opening will be at 12 noon on Saturday the 4th and all are welcome. The gallery is located on Selskar St. in Wexford town, along with a restaurant and coffee shop. More details of the gallery can be found at www.greenacres.ie/art-galleries

New Paintings for tomorrow’s Exhibiton

On the Sea and Sky page you’ll see a buch of new paintings that will be exhibiting all weekend (and tomorrow) at the People’s Art exhibition at Stephen’s Green. I’m not sure yet exactly where I’ll be located, just take a walk around the outside of the park and you’ll find me somewhere on the east side! Here’s a quick look at one of the paintings. Come to Gorey, Come to Life

Last night was the official launch of “Come to Gorey, Come to Life”, a new campaign by the Gorey Chamber of Commerce to promote Gorey and north Wexford. I designed this logo as part of the campaign. You can click on the picture to see the big version and a little description.

The idea is to tell everyone about all the good things Gorey has to offer, so get the sticker, get the t shirt, get the hat, get the tattoo….well maybe not the tattoo…..and tell people how great Gorey is.

People’s Art Exhibiton

In two and a bit weeks, from the 24th to the 26th of June, I will be taking part in the People’s Art exhibition at Stephen’s Green in Dublin. The exhibition will feature paintings from loads of other Irish artists of various styles so it’s bound to have something for everyone. It’s an outdoor exhibition with paintings hanging on the railings all around the green…very handy for a quick look if you’re just passing by.

I’ll be exhibiting a bunch of new seascape paintings which will be for sale. Photos and prices will be available on the website ahead of the exhibition.

350 South

350 South logoA while ago I did this logo for a friend who decided to cycle 17,00 miles to raise money for the Carers Association of Ireland. Ian, and another friend of his, Lee, will be cycling from Alaska to Argentina in 350 days, starting on July 15th.

Along the way the guys are hoping that others will join them for parts of the trip, so if you’re on the west coast of America and feeling adventurous, get in touch! If not, any other support or donations would be much appreciated. You can find out more at www.350south.org.
